BLOGGING SHOWER!!!!

Last few days have be exhausting and with as little time spend near a computer as possible outside of work. Yes, Super Bowl weekend turned out be pretty good. I am not the one to buy into Super Bowl hype, but I wanted to see what was Houston doing. It was the spirit of seeing unique about Houston, rather than the negative spirits and complains of over-crowding and “I am too cool to get into Superbowl hype” that interested me more.

Staind, Endochine, Hilton, downtown streets, Village bars with Nermine’s group, I was ready for bed Friday night.

The best part of the weekend was of course Saturday’s little kite making and flying experience. A first for me as far as making them. Valerie brought over supplies and along with Leslie and Ted, four of us made kites with sticks and garbage bags, and went down to East Beach in Galveston to fly them. As Leslie would put it, we had a 50% success rate.

Saturday night, Sushi craving, Exit Valerie, Enter Sarah, Kubo’s, Dessert Gallery, Exit Leslie and Ted, and I was in downtown again but this time with Sarah. Plan was to catch up with a host of others scattered all overall the streets. We never did.

I was so exhausted Sunday morning that I slept in. The idea of playing flag football on a muddy field with fewer than normal peeps did not sounding good. Besides, a long afternoon and evening awaited me at Randall’s for a Super Bowl party. Super Bowls need to be watched with LCD display projectors. In the audience starring as Pats fans were me, David, Tim, Sarah, dot dot dot, and Cats fans were Joni, Kelly, dot dot dot. I continued the four year tradition of losing at the squares games.

So I ended a six day drought of not going out at the Volcano yesterday with a little of happy happy and happy hours of fun over a few mojitos. I still prefer them the way I make them. That?s one of the few exotic drinks I can make, thanks to an old Arizona friend, and it?s cool enough to enjoy in gallon variety on hot summer Houston days. Oh yes, I guess, I should apologize for some miscommunications, three of us ended up at IHouse of Pancakes, and three of us, including me, ended up at House of Pies afterwards. We stayed and enjoyed our pancakes and pies, respectively. International House of Pancakes and House of Pies, which do you prefer?

Super Plans this weekend?

I have some free concert tickets to Staind tonight at (still Enron) Field. Tomorrow, looks a little getaway from the city for some Galveston beach fun with kites. Thanks to Leslie & Valerie for an awesome idea! Sunday is of course, day dedicated to football with a little flag football in the morning and watching the big game at a house party on LCD Project display screen. I have not done those in a while. I plan to soak in as much of the downtown festivities both weekend nights. And why not to all the critics and negativity and complainers? There may not be another Super Bowl in Houston in another decade. I do not even know but a handful of player names in the game. But fcuk and go out and enjoy your city. People watch at the very least.

Horrible News: My hairdresser of two years, and I frequented the joint every two weeks almost religiously, has decided to work closer to home. Home would be West Houston. So goes the five minute hair travel in the confines of the city. I doubt, I can go regularly out West (in a wagon) with all the traffic. I had even decided a good hot hairdresser is not even worth dating. Hair is very important to me. So I am in search of a full time replacement in the city area convenient to my place or on the way home from work. Any suggestions?

Well today has been an awful day. A first in my life. I have totally decided to ex-communicate people from my life. I am ending all contact with my ex, Jen Z and my friend Jenn B ofjennerallyspeaking.com. The former for a vartiety of reasons not to be disclosed here. The latter for removing not allowing me to post comments on her blog because she has decided to take sides. I do not need friends who take sides without even hearing both sides.

It’s like erasing life memories of 6 to 8 months. I hope, I do not have to do this again in my life. That was easy. Wow. Heart skipped a beat there. Life goes on. Need stiff drinks! Off to drinking

“We’ll always have Paris”

I saw it again Saturday morning sleeping in late in my bed, I turned on the TV and it was starting on the tele. I love this movie. I own it but just does not seem to find the time to watch it. For you movie-illiterate-fcukers that’s one of the many famous lines in Casablanca from Humphrey Bogart to Ingrid Bergman.

Anyways, so for weekend wrap-up, Friday night, I finally went to the place that Japan build, new Toyota Center to see my beloved Aeros get creamed (with sugar) and trampled by some biitchy ars team from San Antonio. What the fcuk kind of a hockey team name is Rampage? What the fcuk is a Rampage? Moving on from the game, Sarah and I ended up at the Flying Saucer and met up withJenny, Chris and Ross. I finally discovered this place has a beer sampler. Not being a fan of really dark beers, I had to try the light beer sampler. Scott and Rebecca showed later up and whacked us at pool in a whip, chain and a pool stick fashion. Oh yeah, did I mention, I was pouring rain that night. Scramble to the car in the rain without an umbrella is always fun.

Other big highlights of the weekend, I went to Health and Fitness Expo Saturday. Good Luck Houston Marathoners on Sunday morning!!!! Oh yes, I will be attending a “Bike Repair 101″ Workshop in the morning. And I think, the plan is to catch “Along Came Polly” with Jen later in the day. If the movie sucks, I will be sure to write about it. In any case, that would probably put an end to a good and a relaxing weekend.

[Updated Sunday Night: The movie was good and funny. The only bad thing was the string of previews they showed before the movie and none of the 6 movies previewed will be on my big screen or video watch list. What the fcuk is up with Hollywood for putting this crap out over the next two months?

Wee. “Average Joe 2” is airing. Average Joe 1 had several guys better than this group. I know, it’s sad. I will probably watch all of it.

“Friends” is ending. It’s damn about time.

“Will and Grace“. Geez. It’s getting boring. Life does not revolve around whether someone is gay or not.

“Sex and the City” is airing it’s last few episodes. To be honest, as much as I have liked that show, it’s about time. The show has become stale.

Fcuk all the CSI-clone, emergency reponse, secret service, detective shows. “CSI” is still the only good one of them all.

“The Apprentice“. Has potential. Wait and see approach.

“Las Vegas” is a great show.

“Enterprise” is a classic. True to it’s Star Trek legacy.

“Trading Spaces“. My sister swears by the show. I have seen half of one episode. It’s impressive.

“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy“. The best show, reality or no reality, the best show on TV. Period.

Audra party was pretty much the highlight of the weekend. What a great night of playing Mah Jong and Dominos 42 on Saturday. It was good to see Gil, Joni, Brian, Kirk, Dawn, and others to. There were about 15 of us on the main table with two games of Mah Jong going on and several miscellaneous games and another 10-12 friends of friends on other tables with Rob and his buddy as the cover band. Rob did a great job. The Flying Saucer was pretty much dominated by our little groups. That was awesome. As bad as the service was, I have to commend the waitstaff for only messing up on one little bill.

I would be not be fair to myself if I did not mention the beautiful weather this weekend in Houston. Almost perfect. After a quick late brunch on Sunday with Sarah, we decide to take advantage of the fab weather and go biking on the trails. Jenny joined us. It felt good to be out in Memorial Park. I should take advantage of it more than I do.

For picture happy person, I was definitely in a draught. I finally went camera happy after a couple of months of haitus this Saturday evening. [Pictures] Thanks to Deena and Alex for planning and hosting a joint birthday party for me and Deena with good wine, good food, and good games, and good company of friends. I took Sarah as my date for the evening. She is always great company.

Rest of the weekend was nice too. Relaxing but fun. Jenny, Scott amd I rented a couple of movies watched it here. Whale Rider is a great flick. I am not sure what to say about 28 Days Later. I learned that Rene has talent as a “Fortune Reader”. I got my fortune told Friday night. I am not going to say much more on the subject …. There was fun outdoor activities too. I played flag football and then Tennis afterward on Sunday. Football is a must repeat. Weather was almost perfect for it.

Year End Review

First off, I want to thank Hollie and Chris for a wonderful NYE party and great nibbles and pineapple punch, and then Nermine (my driver), Alicia, Rene and Alan for wonderful company at the Club Monkey Party. And today thanks to Krishna for some blackeyed peas for luck, and thanks to everyone who watched USC beat Michigan at the Tavern. We even had a rare Sarah sighting, fresh off her Colorado adventure.

Now, I ranked myself in seven categories last New Years. I guess, I should let the tradition continue. Hmmm … well so here it goes. Drum roll please. The rankings as fresh as any BCS College Football rankings are:

A – Personal Growth
B – Friendship
B – Family
F – Relationships
F – Career
A – Social Life

Let’s start with the positives then dwindle downwards. This was a year of lot of personal growth in a different way than last year. 2002 was a year of exploreration and growing and this was a year of settling in. I was savoring moments and cherishing old things. I enjoyed the same old rather than explore new things. For example, hanging out at Front Porch Pub for some steaks was more fun than checking out a hip new place in midtown. I got to know more about this city and the people that dwell in it. Socially life was as great as ever, minus a few hiccups and some drama which always seem to follow me. I am always doing fun stuff as usual. I still love outdoors, night life, camping, biking world, shopping, kayaking, hiking, bars, restuarants, social comapny, parties, whatever else comes my way. Martin, Cristina, Dan, David, Karen, Clayton, Erin Lynn, Katie, Chris, Matt, Kristen are all now married people. Always great to see friends happy. And ofcourse, my darling Kimi will be soon too.

On the negative, I lost or drifted apart from some friends in the H-town circle. I made a few new ones. I am glad to finally make friends of my neighbors at Allen House. I made some interesting great friends because of blogging of all things. Cool isn’t it? I still missed and was unable to hangout more with some of my best friends in suburbia and in towns likes Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and College Station. But to be honest, in times of need, they come through. Time tested friendships are very strong. Some of who are a decade plus old. It’s amazing how they can revive themselves all of a sudden like we hardly missed a boat. Same thing with family. I hardly saw my brothers and sister but when I aw them, we were the same old. They do live over a 1000 plus miles away in Atlanta, Toronto and Columbus in order.

Work and relationship worlds are the ones most people will look at my rankings and say what the fcuk? Work was weird this year. I was travelling most of first half of the year to North Carolina and back that I did not know where the time went. The ranking is ofcourse, for the layoff. Five years is a great experience level. I am optimistic because I feel like I will be working soon. I have no regrets from my old work place. I have gotten a career starter experience that has been and will be valuable to build upon.

It was a tale of two relationships this year for me. Elizabeth and Jen. Meeting Elizabeth and her moving in so quickly was the first one. A first for me in terms of moving in. It was a weird sort of relationship. I was a little shaken when it ended and the way it ended with an argument at the Tavern, but that was gone pretty quickly. I am not sure what this relationship was in terms of my long dating history. I am not sure where to put Elizabeth in my intense dating worlds of Andrea and Jessica, and of my lesser intense relationships with Catherine, Nichole, Angela etc of my past. I guess, I have to put her in the former for she got the coveted title of the first move-in girlfriend. I had a series of little flings through the summer with newbies and exs which was another first with none being what I wanted. I usually stick to one girl and am fine. Jen brought me back to my old ways. I met Jen, pursued her soon after, and dated her in late summer. Third quarter was the best time I have had with a girlfriend in almost 4 years. But in the short time, Jen does go to among the top amongst my most intense relationships and added to the measuring stick by which all other future girlfriends will be judged. Those girls are some high standards. No pressure future girlfriends! ha ha! It did ended abrutly. Lessons learnt. I made mistakes and took some things for granted. Always bad. Me equals guy, in short. Intense has always been my way, I like it, I love it infact, and God knows why girls are afraid of that. Everytime, I go through a tough relationship experience, I over-analyze very little detail. That’s the engineer in me.

All in all, I complained about not being in a loving relationship last year, and this year that thing ripped my heart out. Women you can’t live without and you can’t live with. It would be nice to have all these roller coaster rides in my love life to be over and I settle down. I am not sure these roller coaster will be over anytime soon, but man, you have got to love it. I always love a challenge and love to take life head on. What’s a relationship without a challenge.

Whatever this new year brings, it would be better than the last couple of months. That’s my only new year resolution. And that includes re-focusing on myself as I have been doing for the the last few weeks. And re-focus on some of the old. Tomrrow one of my oldest friends is in town from Massachusetts for a day stopover. I have known this South California boy since 5th grade. Fcuking doctor now. I would be afraid to be his patient. Wow. Atiq and I have gotten in trouble in the old Los Angeles days. Car wreak, expired license, no insurance, ditching the car in a Synagoge. Driving over 90 at age 15. Almost got into a street fight. Fun times. Some emotional times. Some high drama always involving a woman! Good memories.

Here’s to being happy in 2004.

Not much has happening lately in my life. I rode my bike a couple of times down the Allen Parkway trails. They are nice. A real urban escape. Two big events coming up for me though. I am going to finally give in and go to a Club Monkey New Years Eve party tomorrow night. The draw was staying over at a hotel suite afterwards without driving. Let’s see what tomorrow night brings. And second, mine & Deena’s birthday party (Vol II) is this coming Saturday. That should be fun. A game night with friends in a relaxed atmosphere setting of a house.

I probably won’t blog till after New Years when I do my “Annual Review of Myself” Post. This year’s will be interesting to write about. So everyone till 2004 rings in, here’s to a safe and fun New Years Eve, and an end to a fcuking horrible last quarter of 2003.

I have spend most of the last few days with mom, sister and my middle brother. It was good times had by all of us. It’s nice to spend so much time with family. I have not spend much in the last year and more. Ofcourse, it’s hard to see my siblings when they live out of state. And in the case of my youngest brother, out of country in good old Canada.

Basic theme of re-decorativing my mom’s place continued with my sister and I. It all started with a simple purchase of a 65-inch HDTV, which I must say is N-I-C-E with a period. The problem with those is you are forced to change interior decoration styles from whatever to more modern or minimalist to fit a steel grayish TV. We had a hard time finding furniture. I think, most furniture places are still front loaded with or have deals in place with manufacturers who still think traditional stuff still sells all the time. Times are changing, my friends. A giant TV dictates a lot. I had a long discussion with a sales rep at a furniture store who agreed with me but the “corporate” has not bought it yet. Anyways, so we ended up with slick leather set-up. Of course, buying a digital surround sound system and all sorts of other decorative items took some time too. And we siblings spend a lot of time cleaning out old closest stuff all over the house. I took a full SUV load of stuff to the Recycling Center on Westpark & 59, and I took another load of stuff to Salvation Army.

I love shopping. I should have been an interior decorator. I know how to spend money Usually limitation of funds is a problem I am pretty impressed with my little sister and her tastes. Anyways, it was good, and nice and relaxing few days getaway from my usual world. I guess, now I am back to my usual world and life is back to normal. Monday should be a busy day as far as job search front goes.

I was out with my sister and brother shopping to re-decorated my mom’s house. Other than that, my life is as boring as anyone fcuking a sheep in the middle of Gobi desert. I had a great game night time over at a fellow Aggie friend’s house tonight, just north of the Heights. It was sort of a holiday party. I love those. There is another party of sorts tomorrow. I have not done much else this week. I did go bike riding Monday night when the world watches football. I was out riding in the “Lights in the Heights” neighborhoods under the stars and in perfect weather.

News from the front, the job search front: There is an upcoming, very promising, interview Friday which is a good sign on something I would love to be doing. There are several other leads starting to pop up on the radar. Christmas and holidays are always a bad time. Whatever happens over the next few months, I am ready for whatever happens.

Holiday season will be pretty mellow this year with most of my time spend with close friends and family. One last thing, thanks to my dear friend Deena, I think I will have a wonderful 30th birthday even if my planned ski trip starting the day after is out the door because I have to be prudent. So thank you Deena in advance!

I was invited to two big holiday parties tonight. I knew I was not going to go to one. I was contemplating going to the other because it was a new townhome-warming party too of friends. The problem is sometimes, you lack the motivation to go when you are going by yourself to those kind of things. I am sure, if I was in a positive mood, I would have gone, mingled, made friends within the first 30 minutes, and partied all night with some. I have done that and met several good friends that way. I am just not into the whole spirit of meeting new people. I do feel bad for skipping on couple of nice friends invitation. I am enjoying my solitude for most of this past week. In the past, I would have been anxious. I am not today. My cell phone is not receiving any calls dues to porting number from AT&T to Cingular. I can call out. It’s a mess. (I fcuking hope this is fixed by tomorrow). This adds to my solitude too in a way as my cell phone does not ring and I do not expect it to ring. Aren’t we all in way expecting our phones to ring? I don’t think I am sad. I am just in a mellow mood. I am not even sure if it is lack of self-confidence. I thought that was the case for weeks. That would be a defeatist attitude that I cannot tolerate for myself. The job situation, lack of love life, my future, what next year will bring, where I will be etc is weighing heavily on my mind. There are positives too. I do not want to deluge into them here on a public forum. For the last two years, I have done so much and been “on the go that I think I need to get back off and find myself again. I need to get back to my old self. Somebody once told me that I was searching for something. It’s probably true. Everyone is in a way. I am not sure exactly what. I can guess. Happiness. Love. Myself. Stability. I have goals like everyone. Life never works out the way you want it to work out, or what and how you expect it to workout. Sometimes you are limited by what you can do by circumstances you cannot control.

Tomorrow is Alicia’s graduation party. I will make it to that one, even if just for a dear friend who has always been there for me. Familiar faces will help too. Hope the fcuking phone works by tomorrow. Otherwise, I will be even more frustrated and pissed then I am at right now with the wireless companies.

When it rains, it pours

This last few weeks have been close to nightmarish with comparisons to some of the major moving events of my life. Friday was the culmination of everything. I am not sure if I will be blogging anymore or may just cut down on blogging. I do not feel like blogging anymore. Currently I feel free, I feel sad, I feel scared. I am not sure what will happen or where my life lead me to. It’s a stepping stone and learning experience. And yes, with all of the above because I graciously welcome myself the world of the unemployed. Being laid-off after 4 years with the only corporate entity I have worked for since college is not a fun feeling.

Just as update, Rouge was fab. It is, however, more of a dining establishment than a bar. Alicia and I sat at the bar, talked with a very interesting bartender, returned a cheap Cali Merlot, settled for a Shiraz from the Southern Hemisphere which had a fuller taste, and ate an assortment of cheese selection with bread which was “off-the-menu” and that was nice. The chef came out when we inquired about the cheese, but his explanation eluded us as neither one of us spoke French. We stopped by for a quick dinner with Scott at Farrago’s afterwards. Of course, Cindy’s artwork has disappeared from the walls as of last month. Times have changed. Summer is gone, Fall is over, Winter is here, and I have not written anything dark and depressing lately. I needed a little wine last night to rekindle that spirit.

A View of The City from The City.

Grand opening of Hilton of the Americas near the recently opened Toyota Center is this Friday evening. There will be happy hours, salsa, ballroom dancing all night long. Aero’s play hockey next door. I guess, that’s one more thing addition to downtown that I have yet to visit. I don’t know what is it, I am more of the Mid Towner or more appropriately a Near Towner who likes the Montrose, Memorial Heights, and Heights crowds, and likes to wanders more into the underground world of Warehouse District than downtown proper. Uptown, Museum district, Rice U. and the Village scene is also up on the list. I think downtown needs something. It’s got the wrong mixture of old, chic and pretentious trendiness that may be a precursor to a “Dallasique” trend. Theatre District may be one exception. The recent night life addition in downtown by closing Main Street on weekend nights to make a facsimile of 6th or Bourbon Streets is good progress. It promotes the light rail world if nothing else. May be construction needs to go away. Trees that’s what’s missing. I think deep down, I need greenery to live and be alive, and then I can enjoy everything else around me. I started to write an object view of about Houston city life from an IL’s perspective but like everything else on this blog, it comes down to about me

On this thought, Alicia and I will check out a new place near Montrose today called the “Rouge“. We checked out “The Lounge” last week. This place replaced the old Sierra Grill and did not attract the old yuppie Rice I-am-better-than-you crowd. They have jazz every Wednesday. And The Tavern folks own the place. I sense Montrose proper crowd invading the Lower Montrose and Museum District territory. I guess, the imaginary US-59 line will get blurred. No zoning, you have to love it.
